poster project
Type is the voice of design, therefore, it is important to understand and use type to its fullest potential. The poster project was an exciting challenge, pushing the limits of manipulation, composition, form, and scale. This harmonious poster design that serves a functional purpose and fits the event's mood was created using grid organization, hierarchical considerations, and type exploration. By combining the foamy texture with the yellow color in the typeface, the type manipulation elegantly mimics the color and texture of beer. In including the “Los Angeles” type and blending this into the background it allows the festival's title “Beer Fest” to be the first visual element potential customers will see.
The purpose of this assignment was to grow and test our understanding of hierarchy and utilize type as a stand-alone element to express the essence of an event, given no other visual markers. One difficulty I had was establishing a mood for my event. Los Angeles is a melting pot of different people; thus, it was a challenge to find a mood to encapsulate the ”vibe” of LA. However, with more research and iterations, I was able to find a typeface and manipulation style that reflected the fun and communal side of LA culture.
Lastly, this project allowed me to push my creativity by limiting my resources to only type, and by doing this, I have a greater respect for the power of type in design.

From my initial design, I kept the general layout and color and brought this into my later designs. From my 2nd process iteration, used the foreground background text effect into my final design.
Before
After
The changes made to the final design were to increase legibility and typesetting. To increase legibility, I made the background red and the text black to stand out. In addition, I fixed the rivers in the body text. In addition, I made the sponsor logos black and white to make them less of a distraction.
