sequential figure and ground

While delving into Gestalt principles, I explored compositions that dealt with elements like negative space, form, shape, and slow. While experimenting with different elements such as flow and rhythmic patterns, I grew in my understanding of Gestalt principles. Through my exploration of foreground/background relationships, I created a Sequential Ground figure that reflects my knowledge of Gestalt principles. In my decision-making for my designs, I wanted to focus heavily on rhythmic flow rather than contrast. Contrast is one element I wish I had emphasized more in my design, as the design could be considered static due to my heavy use of curved forms and the color black.

The purpose of this exercise is to test and exercise our understanding of Gestalt principles, which emphasize the importance of balance, contrast, and negative space by organizing shapes in certain positions. This concept is important in design because these principles help us understand the interrelationships between individual numbers and letters and their role in the whole composition. Although I had some difficulties determining a good balance of my foreground and background, I feel that I learned a lot about this type of composition that I can apply to further designs.
